Alterist on the Brave New Girls Podcast

Recently, we had the privilege of joining Lou Hamilton on the Brave New Girls podcast to dive into the issue of textile waste and how we can reduce overproduction in the fashion industry.

A massive thank you to Lou for inviting us to share our story and the work we’re doing at Alterist. It’s an honour to be part of a podcast that’s creating space for important conversations about sustainability and encouraging us all to think differently about the choices we make.

Rethinking Waste: Turning Textiles Into Opportunity

During our chat, we explored how textile waste isn’t the end of the line—it’s the beginning of something new. At Alterist, we believe that what’s often seen as waste can actually be the raw material for innovation. Whether it’s surplus stock from brands or discarded fabrics, there’s value in what others might overlook.

By collaborating with talented upcycling designers, makers, and brands, we are working to transform waste into high-quality, meaningful products. This process not only reduces waste but also redefines what it means to be sustainable in fashion. It’s about looking at the whole lifecycle of a garment—from its initial creation to how it can be given new life.

Small Actions, Big Impact

In our conversation with Lou, we also talked about the power of small, intentional actions. The choices we make as consumers have the potential to create significant change. Whether it’s supporting upcycled fashion, choosing sustainable brands, or reconsidering how we value our clothes, every decision counts.

At Alterist, we believe that choosing better isn’t just about individual actions—it’s about starting a movement where sustainability and creativity work hand-in-hand to challenge the traditional fashion model. When we choose fashion that’s made with purpose and care, we contribute to a broader shift towards a more circular economy—one where clothes are made to last and are valued for their craftsmanship, not just their trends.

Why It Matters

Fashion is one of the most resource-intensive industries in the world, and the rise of fast fashion has only accelerated the problem. Overproduction and textile waste are issues that can no longer be ignored. But at Alterist, we’re proving that there is another way forward—one that prioritises sustainability, creativity, and a more mindful approach to consumption.

Every time we choose upcycled fashion or support a designer working with surplus materials, we are creating a ripple effect. These small, thoughtful actions, when combined, have the power to reshape the future of fashion and reduce its negative environmental impact.

Thank You, Lou, for the Opportunity

We are incredibly grateful to Lou Hamilton for giving us the opportunity to talk about the work Alterist is doing and to shine a light on the amazing designers and makers who are leading the charge in sustainable fashion. It’s through these collaborations that we can continue to create positive change.

If you’re interested in upcycled fashion and want to learn more about Alterist, you can listen to the Brave New Girls podcast episode and discover how we’re working to reduce textile waste, promote circular fashion, and challenge the status quo.

Thank you again, Lou, for creating such a powerful platform for these important conversations and for supporting us in amplifying our mission.
