Alterist Collaborations: Sproot Baby X Material Response

At Alterist, we’re excited to share our latest collaboration that brings together creativity, sustainability, and purpose. Teaming up Sproot Baby and Alterist designer Material Response, we’ve upcycled preloved baby suits into a beautiful line of baby hats and headbands.

Sproot Baby came to us with a question: what could be done with the gently used baby suits collected through their buy-back program? They wanted a solution that could give these items a meaningful new purpose, reducing waste while still valuing the quality of these garments.

At Alterist, we took on the challenge of creating something fresh and functional from these preloved pieces. To make this vision a reality, we introduced Sproot Baby to Material Response, one of our skilled upcycling designers. True to their style, Material Response added denim touches to create unique hats and headbands that blend the original fabrics with modern accents. Each piece was crafted by hand, transforming preloved suits into stylish accessories that parents can feel proud to use.

This project highlights an important truth: the resources used to create textiles are immense. For example, producing a single cotton T-shirt can take up to 2,700 litres of water. Extending the life of these materials through upcycling respects the energy and resources already invested, while reducing environmental impact. Research shows that lengthening a garment’s lifespan by nine months can reduce the CO₂ impact by up to 79%.

Want to Give New Purpose to Surplus Materials?

At Alterist, we specialise in transforming surplus items—whether from buy-back programs, excess stock, or other sources—into high-value, sustainable products that give materials a second life. By upcycling, we’re not just reusing, we're creating products that truly reflect your brand’s commitment to sustainability.
