MADE-TO-ORDER POLICY

Last updated: 11 February 2026

Alterist supports independent designers who produce garments responsibly and in limited quantities. Some items listed on the platform are made-to-order.

This policy explains how made-to-order purchases work and what to expect as a buyer.

What Is a Made-to-Order Item?

A made-to-order item is produced specifically after your order has been placed.

This may include:

Details of available customisation options will be clearly outlined in the product listing.

Made-to-order pieces are not pre-stocked items. They are created individually for you.

How the Process Works

  1. You place your order through Alterist.

  2. The designer receives the order and begins preparation.

  3. The estimated production timeline stated in the listing applies.

  4. You may receive confirmation by email outlining the expected dispatch date.

  5. Once production is complete, the item is dispatched using tracked shipping.

Production timelines vary depending on the designer and complexity of the garment. These timelines will always be stated clearly on the product page.

Cancellations

You may request cancellation of a made-to-order item before production begins.

Once production has started, cancellations are no longer permitted, as materials and labour have already been committed to your order.

To request cancellation, contact the designer immediately via Alterist Messages.

Returns & Exchanges

Made-to-order items are created specifically for you and are therefore generally non-returnable.

Returns will only be accepted if:

This does not affect any statutory rights that may apply under UK or EU consumer law.

Custom sizing or colour selections made by the buyer do not qualify as faults.

Sustainability & Responsible Production

Made-to-order production is an important part of Alterist’s commitment to reducing waste.

By producing garments only when ordered:

We encourage buyers to review measurements carefully and contact the designer with any questions before purchasing.

If you have questions about a made-to-order item, please contact the designer directly via Alterist Messages before placing your order.
