Alterist is a curated marketplace connecting independent upcycle designers with customers across the UK and EU.
This Seller Policy forms part of our Terms of Use.
By opening and operating a shop on Alterist, you agree to this policy and our Terms.
Alterist is an upcycle-only marketplace.
All items listed must:
Be made from a majority of upcycled materials
Be altered, transformed, or reworked by you
Not consist primarily of virgin materials
Not be resale-only items
Not be stock purchased and resold without modification
Alterist is not a resale platform.
Each listing must:
Use your own original photographs (no stock images)
Accurately represent the item being sold
Clearly state materials used
Include transparent production details where relevant
For made-to-order or personalised items:
Listings must clearly state production timelines
If using photographs of previous work, this must be clearly disclosed
Transparency is central to Alterist’s mission.
You agree to:
Provide honest information about material sourcing
Accurately represent garments as upcycled
Avoid misleading sustainability claims
Alterist reserves the right to:
Request verification of sourcing or production methods
Remove listings that misrepresent materials
Suspend or terminate accounts for greenwashing or policy violations
The following are prohibited:
New garments made primarily from virgin materials
Items not altered or upcycled
Resale garments without transformation
Items not created or materially reworked by you
Listings that violate these standards may be removed without notice.
Your shop represents your business within the Alterist community. You agree to:
Maintain a minimum of 3 active listings
Upload at least 2 images per product
Ensure the first product image has an all-white background
Provide accurate descriptions and sizing information
Comply with all applicable labelling and consumer regulations
Respect intellectual property rights
Avoid fee avoidance or off-platform transactions
If your shop has fewer than 3 active listings for 4 consecutive weeks without notice, it may be temporarily deactivated. Reactivation is available upon request.
To maintain customer trust, you must:
Dispatch in-stock items within 2 working days
Use tracked shipping for all orders
Notify Alterist immediately if you are unable to meet dispatch timelines
If dispatch delays occur, Alterist may notify the customer on your behalf.
Respond to buyer messages within 48 hours
Communicate clearly regarding made-to-order timelines
Resolve issues professionally and promptly
If you are unable to complete an order:
You must notify the buyer immediately
You must cancel the order promptly
If a parcel is lost in transit:
Alterist will investigate with the carrier
You must cooperate in providing dispatch confirmation
Appropriate resolution will be determined based on tracking evidence
Each seller sets their own return policy, which must be clearly stated on their profile and/or listings.
For made-to-order or personalised items, returns may be declined unless the item is faulty.
You are responsible for:
Complying with applicable UK and EU consumer law
Honouring statutory rights where required
Resolving disputes relating to faulty or misrepresented goods
If a buyer escalates an issue and it cannot be resolved directly, Alterist may review the matter via email escalation.
Alterist does not charge a listing fee.
A commission is applied to each completed sale. The applicable commission rate is agreed with you during onboarding and outlined in your Seller Agreement.
Payments are processed securely via Stripe.
Payouts are issued within 72 hours of confirmed delivery, provided:
The order has been successfully delivered
No dispute is pending
Tracking confirms receipt
Alterist reserves the right to delay payout if a delivery issue or dispute is under review.
You may receive customer information necessary to fulfil orders, including:
Name
Shipping address
Phone number
You agree to:
Use this information solely for order fulfilment
Comply with applicable data protection laws
Not use customer data for marketing without explicit consent

7. Community Standards
All sellers must treat members of the Alterist community with respect.
You may not upload content that is:
Abusive, threatening, or defamatory
Misleading or deceptive
Infringing on intellectual property rights
In violation of privacy laws
